How To Choose Your Cosmetic Dentist

Considering a cosmetic dentist is an important decision that will affect your many concerns around comfort, ease of treatment process, preservation of esthetics and dignity during treatment, long term predictability of the work and actual artistry of the results.

The goal of avoiding more expense, inconvenience due to premature failure and sub-standard results is important.

Esthetic dentistry has emerged to the forefront of dental services in the last few decades and dental schools are still not emphasizing advanced training in this area. Training must be sought after in hourly, daily or weekly courses some of which are “hands-on” and some of which are not. The instructors for these courses vary in the training they have had as well. All of these courses require dentists to commit time outside of, or in place of, their normal work hours and usually require a small to a significant out-of-pocket fee.

The quality of your cosmetic treatment, in my opinion, is a direct result of the dentist’s training and experience.

My philosophy has always been centered on the wellness and comprehensive care of all the dental needs of my patients. That being said, cosmetic dentistry is a particular interest of mine and a specialization that I have pursued since the beginning of my career over 15 years ago. Seeing the impact that a beautiful smile has on people’s lives and the transformation they experience is exciting and rewarding for all involved.

I began my training as one of 4 senior students selected for a year-long Esthetic Mini-Residency offered at UCLA lead by Bruce Crispin, now head of Esthetics Professionals teaching institute. Throughout my career I have actively joined study clubs and sought out continuing education extensively every year. Over the past 8 years I have committed several weeks per year and over 20 thousand dollars per year dedicated to advanced training. Now more familiar with the leaders in dental education, I seek out courses from the best. I commit the time and resources that are required so I might provide my patients with the best.

Instructors, institutes and programs I have studied with include: UCLA Continuing Dental Education, Eubank teaching institute, IDEA institute, Dr. Newton Fahl, Dr. John Kois, Dr. Fran Spear, Dr. Pascal Magne, and UCSF.

I partner with laboratories that are often twice the cost of those used standard in the community and do not upcharge the patient. If you have questions about the financial model please inquire. This partnership is essential for offering superior quality.

Through my experience and commitment to extensive advanced training, I was fortunate enough to be thought of as a leader in cosmetic dentistry over the 15 years I practiced there.

The smile is an important part of how we all communicate and express ourselves. An attractive smile can affect a person’s self image, confidence, and success personally and professionally. We’ll help you explore the possibilities. Thanks to recent advances in cosmetic dentistry, we can often provide conservative, non-invasive solutions at a low cost.

It all begins with a thorough exam and diagnosis to identify any disease processes or functional problems before starting treatment. You deserve to understand the difference between treatment that is needed for health and prevention, and elective cosmetic procedures. During your new patient exam, we can evaluate the esthetics of your smile and give you information about the range of possibilities that are appropriate for you — ranging from minor contouring and teeth whitening to full-mouth rehabilitations.
