Green Dentistry

We have many environmentally conscious measures in place, including recycling of lead and other metals. Our amalgam separator units and backflow preventers safeguard water lines when silver fillings are removed. We routinely use rubber dam barriers when removing old fillings from the mouth and high-speed suctions that keep dust or particles from being ingested. We have also invested in new dry evacuation (suction) systems that decrease the water use by 60 gallons per hour, and have installed knee-activated water saving sinks.

When we have a choice, we always select recycled, environmentally friendly, and biodegradable materials, cleaning agents, and consumables. Though we are a primarily paperless office, we do use recycled paper when necessary. To save energy, we use powersave modules on our computers, and shutoff sensors and energy-efficient lights on general room lighting. Our steam sterilizer eliminates the use of dangerous solvents and aerosols. Our digital radiography is more diagnostic, yet emits 90% less radiation for patients and eliminates harmful development and processing chemicals to enhance the health of patients, our team, and the earth. In addition, our office was constructed with earth-friendly and recycled products wherever possible. We have designed clearstory windows to maximize natural light.
